Word game

Choose the target sound and children have to find words beginning with that sound and write them in the treasure box.

I use these simple captions with children who are just starting to read cvc words. It gives them just a little bit more to decode. Laminate and cut up.

This can be used for children of all ages. You will need a pack of word cards. It can be as simple as cvc words for infants or spellings for year sixes. Children throw a die and move that number of spaces with a counter. They or the adult then picks a card and they have to read it, spell it or use the word in a sentence.
