Seal - Getting on and Falling out

I thought I would use A Friend for Little Bear to introduce the concept of 'friendship' to the children.

Synopsis Little Bear lives all alone on a desert island. He wishes he had something to play with. Then a stick comes floating by, followed by a bottle and then a wooden horse. Little Bear and wooden horse play together and have a wonderful time. But problems arise as more and more things come floating by.

Followed by discussions on 'qualities' of being a friend and the difference between being friendly and being a friend. I designed this worksheet for the children to fill in the 'qualities' of being a friend.

Mini Christmas stockings

I thought these were fab.

I thought they would be good hung on a string with a little surprise in side (used as an advent calendar), I have made some already and if I can do them anyone can. Perhaps you could get some parents/grandparents to knit them for your classroom. Each one took me half an hour to make.

Child to throw a die or pick a digit card and write the number in the middle. Child then works out one more and one less. Can they spot the pattern?

Print several copies, laminate and they can be used over and over again.

Christmas boxes

My daughter and I spent several hours one afternoon making these little boxes. They are so simple and look great. You could make them out of old birthday cards too. Most juniors and probably year 2s could manage them.

Story Starters

This is a great little interactive way of writing a story as a whole class on the IWB or for children to do independantly. You could just use the ideas and the children do real writing on paper.

Letters and Sounds planning, week 5 for children with SEN

This is week five planning for my group. The children are excellent at reading the sounds now but not so good at writing them. I have put a huge emphasis this week on 'quickwrite'. The children need lots of practise at writing the sounds. We are also only learning 2 sounds this week. I will assess whether they can cope with anymore at the end of next week.
