word list generator

I thought this was very good. Ideal for phonics teaching when you just can't think of those words. Have a play and see what you think.

Phonics board game

1. Use coloured counters for each child. Laminate the board and write a cvc word with a whiteboard pen. If the child can read the word by blending the sounds together they get to move their counter over to the other side of the river.

2. Have a stack of grapheme cards and children have to collect the correct sounds by turning over one card at a time. Children must say what the sound is before they can keep it. When they have the correct sounds to make the word they must blend them together in order to cross the river.

3. Give children a picture card of a cvc word. If they can segment the word and write the sounds they can cross the river.

Assessment sheet for phonics - Letters and sounds

I find this useful during my Letters and Sounds sessions. Just a simple tick, cross or question mark is needed. Very quick to fill in and gives you a good picture of a child's knowledge when filled in over a few weeks.

Throw a die, land on the picture and child says what the picture is and what the initial sound is. If correct they get to put their coloured counter on the picture.

Pick a grapheme card, child goes to the first picture beginning with that grapheme and so on until the last picture. (Use s, a, t, p, n, i x 2 grapheme cards)

Phoneme frame activity with cvc words

Click on these images and right click and save to your computer. Insert into a word document and print. Laminate the frame and the pictures. Cut out the pictures and put a little bluetac on the back. Stick into the large rectangle and the child uses a whiteboard pen to write the cvc word.

Particularily suitable for phase 2 Letters and Sounds

Initial sound bingo

I have just made this for my letters and sounds group. It fits in nicely with phase 2 as it covers the initial s a t p n i sounds

Children have a card with pictures on. You either show them the grapheme card and they put a counter over the correct picture or you say the sound and they find the correct picture and cover it with a counter.
