Initial sound bingo

I have just made this for my letters and sounds group. It fits in nicely with phase 2 as it covers the initial s a t p n i sounds

Children have a card with pictures on. You either show them the grapheme card and they put a counter over the correct picture or you say the sound and they find the correct picture and cover it with a counter.

Domino maths

I just found this on the internet and thought it would be very useful. Ways to use dominoes in Maths. I used to spend hours with my children playing with dominoes and we used to make up different games with them.

I just made this simple template for making dominoes you could use them for numeracy or for word matching. Click the image and then right click and save to your computer. Insert into a word document and stretch to fit the page.

g y confusion

Charlie has requested a poster to help a child who gets confused over g and y. Her idea was to have the g with a football to make it look like a goal. Here are a couple of posters to try and address that problem.

b d p q confusion

Children often get these letters the wrong way round when first learning to read and write. Also some children continue to do this well into their education at school. Here are a few posters and ideas that might help these children. I found these on the internet

Finger spaces in writing

As we all know in the early stage of a child learning to write they don't put finger spaces in their work.

Here are some resources to help, remind and encourage children to do that.

Spacemen Scroll down toward the bottom of the page to download clipart for sticking to a lolly stick.
Not sure if these will work because I haven't tried them out yet. If you click on the image to open and then right click and save to your computer. You can then insert into a word document and make them the size you want. The idea is to laminate and cut out. Child makes the rocket go along the page and the little spaceman makes the spaces in the child's writing.

A nice idea is to give a child a lollipop stick and let them decorate it themselves so as to take ownership of it.

Adding caterpillar

Click the image and then right click and save to your computer. Insert the image into a word document set for landscape. Laminate and then write a number in the first section with a dry wipe pen. Children have to add one or add two etc to that number and continue until they reach the head section. You can make up alsorts of rules to differentiate children's abilities.
